This project was planned maintenance work in a STW in which we were working as a sub-contractor. Our works included the repositioning of start/stop buttons, emergency stop buttons and flow sensors. Our initial concern after carry out a risk assessment was the flow into the works as we needed to isolate the inlet screens. Once we had established that weather was faviable and that the inlet was suitable to have one screen isolated whilst the other was available, We could carry out the work during “off peak” periods. To start the work on each inlet screen, one at a time, we isolated and locked off the control panel and then conducted a safe isolation procedure to prove dead. We could then disconnect the control equipment and reinstall them onto the new stanchion installed by the main contractor, Once this was completed, we reenergised the screen and tested the controls. Once proven their functionality we could copy the process on the other three screens.   

  Our approach to this project was managed by the outcome of the risks to persons and the operations of the site. The project had a time factor with this in mind. The project was delivered with the allocated time and budget due to the planning and sensible approach. The clients requirements which was to have corroded hard wear removed and replaced to insure continued operation of the site was achieved, with our works completed with no additions or costs. Due to the planning and experience of all involved in the project, the electrical modifications to existing plant was achieved with no issues arising. Compliance was achieved by working to BS7671, EARA, PPE and OPS001. The site induction, daily sign in and constant awareness of health and safety, meant we could work safely.
