Working on live processes with the installation of control panels and sensors this project involved installing measuring equipment supplied by others, to a live treatment works. The electrical side of the project required a power supply from a local source. This meant investigating the power supply’s available and ensuring they would be suitable. The suitability of the power supply meant it had the correct circuit protective device, circuit conductors, existing load and its existing use wouldn’t be affected by the new load. During the investigation for a suitable power supply it was found that local distribution equipment had capacity to introduce new circuits, and so we were able to install dedicated power supply’s for the panels.
The requirements for installation of the panels meant they had to be accessible, at the correct height and not restrict any walk ways. This was achieved by manufacturing hot dipped galvanised Uni-strut to form a mounting frame. The sensor equipment and suspension arms also had to be installed to a specific position but not obscure the walkways and processes of the works. The cable tray was installed so as to not deviate from the handrails and walkways specifications. The cable tray was then earthed using the correct supplementary earthing conductor CSA. It was checked that all operatives were appropriately trained and competent for the task (OPSO001) During the project, the Rams were followed from the start to the end of each day, ensuring that we had received an operations site induction and were briefed (OPSO001). The start of the day involved attending site donning the required PPE outlined in OPSO001, signing in and notifying the control room that we were on site (OPSO001). Whilst signing in we would ask if there were any changes or plans on the site that were different from the day before. We would then go to the place of work and look for any situation that could cause harm or injury.
Whilst the electrical work was conducted on the site’s electrical installation, locks and notices were used for safe isolation as per ENGO003 (OPSO001) . Whilst working we would check that the walkways and handrails were safe and secure. Only tools and equipment for each specific task were taken onto the walkways. Operatives were informed to not interfere with existing plant or operational processes (OPSO001). With the Rams, planning and attention to detail, the site could continue to operate whilst the works were carried out.
At the end of each day and completion of the project, we reported back to the control room to inform the status of our work and if there were any changes specific to the Rams.
